PROBLEM 1 (30 marks)
A field investigation is conducted to assess the impact of traffic noise and agricultural chemicals on people
living near roads and crop fields. The roads and fields are highlighted in the map below and you are given
this map (P3TerrainMap.img) in a projected coordinate system: UTM, NAD1983, Zone 15N. The impact
range of road noise is estimate to be 60m on both sides of the roads. Agricultural chemicals have an effect
for up to 70m around fields with perimeter of less than 1200m, 140m around fields with a perimeter from
1200m-1650m, and 210m around fields with a perimeter of larger than 1650m. Your task is to conduct
analyses using ArcGIS to answer the following questions:
1. Find and calculate total areas where people live near the roads and crop fields that affected by both traffic noise and agricultural chemicals in square kilometers (km2 ). Produce a PDF map to illustrated the affected areas and show the total size (km2 ) of affected areas on the map. Name the map as Map1.pdf and save it in your submission folder. (10 marks)
2. Find and calculate total areas where people live near the roads and crop fields that are affected by either
traffic noise or agricultural chemicals, but not both in square kilometers (km2
). Produce a PDF map
to illustrated the affected areas and show the total size (km2
) of affected areas on the map. Name the
map as Map2.pdf and save it in your submission folder. (15 marks)

حساب إجمالي المساحة المتضررة من أيٍّ من المؤثرين
بالكيلومتر المربع وإنتاج خريطة لذلك.
